What a deck & fence day looks like.
Wood decks and fences get a two-step process: a sodium percarbonate cleaner that lifts gray UV oxidation and biological growth, followed by an oxalic acid brightener that restores natural color and opens the grain for stain absorption. The cleaner-brightener combo is what every major stain manufacturer (Defy, Cabot, Penofin, Sikkens) specifies as the right pre-stain prep.
Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech, Fiberon) gets a manufacturer-approved low-pressure rinse with a non-bleach surfactant. Vinyl fencing gets the same soft-wash chemistry we use on siding.
What we don't do: pressure-wash wood. High pressure on cedar or pressure-treated lumber fuzzes the grain and shortens deck life by years. Chemistry first, then a gentle rinse.
